Because of the nature and quality of Western Red Cedar to withstand insect attack and other outdoor elements, Cedar does not necessarily require a finish to keep its structure over the years. Many people prefer to allow their cedar, whether used for decking or fencing, to age naturally without any finish. If Cedar is left completely natural, a silver-grey color will eventually become prominent in the wood, highlighted by darker streaks.

If, however you prefer your new Cedar to keep that 'new' wood look and feel, then we highly recommend using one of our Owatrol® finishes.
